Maroon – I Ain’t Runnin’ For Pope

A music video that I directed in 1989 for the classic hip hop group Maroon. We shot on film – 16mm B&W and Super 8 color – and had about $1000 for the budget, which was barely enough to shoot for one day.  We hustled around Morningside Heights grabbing shots at a half dozen locations until we ran out of daylight. It was a lot of fun. It came out pretty nice. If I knew then what I know now …

Maroon’s album The Funky Record was a critical hit and made Rolling Stone music critic Robert Cristigau’s list of Best Albums of 1989 in the Village Voice and is listed in his book “Guide to the Music of the 80′s”.  Maroon was rapper Emcee Will EP and Martin Kierszenbaum, who now heads A&R at Interscope Records and is president of CherryTree Records.
