about

Over the past ten plus years, filmmaker and writer DJ Lanphier has worn many hats in the endeavor to create film, TV, radio and web productions that make us think and challenge traditional concepts of media.  He’s been privileged to do so with an amazing number of talented people including Ari Wallach ( of The Great Schlep and re:think), author and documentarian Douglas Rushkoff (of PBS Frontline’s “The Merchants of Cool”), filmmaker and writer Garth Stein (“When Your Head’s Not A Head It’s a Nut” and “The Last Party“) and Artist, Director and Composer John Moran.

DJ has worked on literally hundreds of film and television productions – from big budget movies to no budget music videos – with a long list of directors, producers and performers including: Woody Allen, Joel Schumacher, Jonathan Demme, Tony Kaye, Sam Raimi, Barbet Schroeder, Adrian Lyne, Nora Ephron, Rob Reiner, Clayton Townsend, Jonathan Filley, Kenneth Utt, Johnny Depp, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, U2, Isaac Hayes, Chris Rock, Madonna, George Clooney and many many more.

In 2002, he was invited to join one of the first popular web blogs, the now defunct Jakeneck, where he was honored to post articles alongside Daniel Sieradski, Starre Vartan, Julian Sanchez and Douglas Rushkoff.

As the “go to tech guy” at GQ Magazine’s Material Interest at men.style.com, he wrote about computers, cars, audio gear, cell phones, and more.

Currently, DJ is writing about music at Spinner and co-producing The MediaSquat with Douglas Rushkoff on WFMU 91.1 FM. (We’re currently on haitus. Please go to the Podcasts page to listen to segments.)

When not working he’s thinking, writing, reading, playing (and listening to) music, watching movies, going to art museums, cooking, taking long walks in Central Park and discovering new and fun things to eat, look at, talk about and experience in New York City with his Hell’s Kitchen gal.
