about

DJ @ BuzztwangMy name is DJ Lanphier and I’m a storyteller.

More specifically, a Writer, Creative Producer, Filmmaker and a Photographer who is deeply passionate about all things visual, digital, production, technical and creative in the pursuit of new and engaging narratives that inspire the audience to share and explore. The media landscape is changing in amazing ways. Finding stories that are compelling is an exciting challenge.

Over the years, I’ve worked on nearly every type of production possible: big budget Hollywood movies, national live-to-air network TV specials, rock and roll music videos shot in the most unlikely (and unfriendly) of locations and most everything in between.

I am very lucky to have worked on projects directed by Woody Allen, Leonard Nimoy, Jonathan Demme, Ted Demme, Johnny Depp, Joel Schumacher, John McTeirnan, Tony Kaye, Emile Ardolino and producers Clayton Townsend, Kenneth Utt, Alan Marshall, Robert Greenhut, Elliot Kastner, Ted Field, Jonathan Filley and many others. It has been a fantastic learning experience.

In the world of television and music videos, many sleepless nights and fun days were spent on projects for Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, U2, Issac Hayes, Madonna, and literally hundreds more. At one point or another, I’ve worked for dozens of cable and broadcast outlets, including ABC, CBS, TNT, History Channel, ESPN, Sundance Channel, HBO, A&E, and PBS.

As a Producer, I love to solve the problems that arise during creation and production. I’m a skilled liaison between tech, production and creative who sees the big picture and knows how to get the job done. And, as it goes, I often find myself working with kindred spirits.

I’ve worked with composer, theatrical director and artist John Moran (Book of The Dead / 2nd Avenue), author, teacher, documentarian Douglas Rushkoff (The Merchants of Cool), musician and producer Martin Kierszenbaum (Lady Gaga, Sting) and media consultant Ari Wallach (The Great Schlep).

Producer Jason Taragan (Paul Blart: Mall Cop) of Rumpus Entertainment and I created “TV Show”, a multi-platform, edgy, revolutionary and informative comedy variety show pilot.

As a Writer, I’ve written for Fast Company, Spinner (AOL Music), and GQ.

For two years, from 2009 to 2011, I lived the rock fan’s dream writing for Spinner @ AOL Music and was thrilled to interview Kristin Hersh, Wanda Jackson, The Walkmen, Broken Social Scene, Young the Giant, and Nicole Atkins as well as review and photograph shows by The Vaccines, Robert Fripp, Aimee Mann, Daniel Lanois, She & Him, Phosphorescent, The Morning Blenders, Delta Spirit, Bela Fleck, Bettye Levette, Freelance Whales and many more.

In 2008, I worked for GQ Magazine’s blog Material Interest at men.style.com, where I actually got to play with, research and then write about computers, audio gear, cell phones, and other fun things.

In the world of radio, I co-produced The MediaSquat with Douglas Rushkoff on WFMU 91.1 FM.

Originally from Omaha, I live in New York with my beautiful Hell’s Kitchen gal.
