Let’s remember that Dubya Bush and Hagee have been co-conspirators since before Dubya’s days as Texas governor. I don’t recall the national press being overly concerned about it, but I do remember Texas journalists rolling their eyes. As Molly Ivins observed, it was a given that any Republican gubernatorial candidate had to align himself with one fundamentalist preacher or another, but Hagee was considered a terrible/dangerous choice.
And as much as the idea of Hagee hanging around McCain disturbs me, the idea of Phil Gramm whispering advice about “economics” into McCain’s ear really freaks me out. And watch out for all the second-tier neo-cons, too.

Absolutely. It’s also important to remember that a trapped animal often fights more ferociously for it’s release than needed. It’s a show of power.
