  • Drudge seems to have access to a Rasmussen poll that has yet to be released. I wonder why….
  • While the GOP is all atwiiter about manipulating the Democratic vote, and fascist blowhards like Rushbo encourage their listeners to do so, it may actually be illegal. Whowouldathunkit.
  • The longer I watch Hillary Clinton the more I begin to really not like her that much.
  • Black man says God damn America and white people get upset and ask “where’s the gratitude?”. White man says God damn America and it’s okay.

    bush speak versus reality

    March 20th, 2008 Comments

At this juncture, pretty much everything that comes out of BushCo. is a lie. They just don’t have anything else it would appear.

Film director Milos Forman, who lived through the occupation of the Nazi’s and the Soviet Communists in Czechoslovakia said of propaganda that the obvious stuff never worked. It was the sub textual stuff that worked. This is the obvious stuff. Excerpts from Bush’s speech today with responses:

Because we acted, Saddam Hussein no longer fills fields with the remains of innocent men, women and children.

Saddam is believed to be responsible for the death of an estimated 200,000 Iraqi’s during his three decades long regime. (Not including pinning all the deaths from the Iran / Iraq war on him, since he received tacit support for this war from a number of countries, including the US.) The US led war in Iraq has been responsible for the death of nearly 90,000 Iraqi’s in a short five years, so far documented. Does genocide beget genocide?

Because we acted, Saddam’s torture chambers and rape rooms and children’s prisons have been closed for good.

Saddam’s torture chambers may be gone, but in spirit replaced by Abu Ghraib, and rendition in Syria and Egypt. Orphanages in Iraq proliferate, estimates by Iraqi authorities of millions of orphans abound, and barbaric treatment of children during the US occupation has been in the news.

Because we acted, Saddam’s regime is no longer invading its neighbors or attacking them with chemical weapons and ballistic missiles.

Which doesn’t preclude the USA threatening to invade or attack Iraq’s neighbors.

Because we acted, Saddam’s regime is no longer paying the families of suicide bombers in the Holy Land.

Meanwhile, it’s okay for the US to bribe jihadist groups not to fight, groups which had previously killed Iraqi civilians and US troops. And, it’s still under investigation whether some portions of the Iraqi insurgency and possibly AQI was actually funded by billions of US dollars gone missing.

Because we acted, Saddam’s regime is no longer shooting at American and British aircraft patrolling the no-fly zones and defying the will of the United Nations.

IED’s and suicide bombers both continue to kill both American soldiers and Iraqi civilians nearly every day.

Because we acted, the world is better and United States of America is safer.

The US border is unsecured, so who knows who is coming and going and for what reasons, the Iraqi border is unsecured, the dollar is falling, the economy is in trouble, banks are failing, oil is up and down, the Chinese invest a trillion dollars yearly in US Treasury bills while the US economy continues to accumulate debt while not producing enough to balance it out, a major US city is devastated and the country lacks the resources to fix the problem, nuclear proliferation is still rampant around the world, anti-American sentiment is at a high world wide, an innocent man can be killed by mistake on a plane and people say it is okay, but we are safer because a thug turned despot with delusions of grandeur, who we were told was close to building a nuke but was not, is now gone.

And, if you are a member of the club, you are making billions.

From a man who could have served his nation in his youth my enlisting in the war in Vietnam, yet chose instead to serve in the National Guard (a sure way of avoiding war duty at the time) comes this gem:

I must say, I’m a little envious… If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed. It must be exciting for you … in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger. You’re really making history, and thanks…

This is the kind of doe eyed, fantastical, uber patriotic pablum that wing nuts eat up like starved dogs. But here in the land of truth, it comes off like it is: a joke with no punchline. And, let there be no doubt that in his little pea of a brain, the president of the most powerful nation on Earth believes what he has said is the G-d honest truth. He would grab a gun and fight for freedom, if her were younger, and didn’t have a job, you know, that was really important. He would fight. Honest. Really. He would. Cause, it’s so romantic, fighting war, with Dutch and Billy and all the others. Fight! Fight! Fight!

  • While the news media that is given the Constitutional right and power to report on the facts in order to insure that the government is indeed doing the peoples business is trying to land that juicy scoop interview with the young woman who was Elliot Spitzer’s side dish… the work of the government suffers. Imagine that.
  • Bush speaks and the hits just keep coming. If this guy were a Vegas act they’d have yanked his ass off the stage a year ago and he’d be detailing cub caps at the car wash where he belongs. No sharp objects within reach.
  • Blue Texan over at InstaPutz writes:
    Wingnuts outraged over pastor’s comments!!!!11!11!

    Because he’s connected to Obama.

Nevermind that Pat, who endorsed Rudy, and Jerry, whose ring St. McCain kissed, and Hagee, who endorsed St. McCain, all said the same thing years ago. I guess that’s different, since they’re all white evangelical Republicans.

Meanwhile, Putz is linking to garbage like the National Enquirer.

    These people are truly soulless.

It’s enough to make you… bang your head.

  • The Putz Glenn Reynolds attempts what appears to be his usual back handed compliment regarding the left, Obama and the race card:
Interesting Obama defense from this commenter. The Obama campaign needs more of this stuff, and less of the calling people racist. Here’s a bit: “One of my roomies — total arch conservative — was on law review with him, and said he was a totally great guy. I think one of the reasons is that he treats everyone with respect and consideration. he treats conservatives as friends he disagrees with, not as satanic enemies like Hillary and most of the left do. And that matters a lot.” Again, the Obama campaign should remember this and not rise to Hilary’s bait, which is predicated on making him come across like a traditional Angry Black Candidate.

Note that middle bit there in quotes. “he treats conservatives as friends he disagrees with, not as satanic enemies like Hillary and most of the left do. And that matters a lot.”

It’s a bit hard to stomach this being pointed out by the king of calling all lefties evil based upon the words or actions of a few for a good number of years now. Ward Churchill anyone? It’s been a systematic tactic of Reynolds and other propagandists of the right to label the left everythiing from lunatics to unhinged to mentally unstable.

Glenn is playing a disinformation game here anyway. It’s called “call Obama for REACTING to others playing the race card.” Which is exactly the strategy that the Clinton campaign pushes. Because it’s lose lose for the Obama campaign. They lose if they respond in any way (reacting to thus playing the race card in the eyes of those with no real critical thinking such as Reynolds) and they lose if they don’t respond.

And note, it goes without comment from Glenn that Ferraro’s comments were indeed racist. He lets a link speak for him. He leads this particular post off with a link to a WSJ piece that proffers that Ferraro may be right! It never occurs to Gleen that the WSJ is supporting racist statements, just as his hypocrisy supports disinformation and scapegoating of those who don’t agree with him. A close cousin to racism to be sure, since it’s a form of eliminationsim. He’s blind to the intellectual conflict that exists therein… It’s what makes him the Putz.

Glenn should just take a break. His game is way off. Is it me or as his influence and reach been marginalized to the point of being the internet version of a half filled balloon floating in the corner of the room?

  • Logan Murphy over at Crooks and Liars has the video of Keith Obermann’s latest special comment wherein he chastises Hillary Clinton for her dumpster diving tactics and more…
  • Via Avedon, The Rude One has a few choice words to offer regarding the Elliot Spitzer mess. A few thoughts on that: The manner in which the NY Times and a number of others have so easily and eagerly slipped into gossip Page Six mode is a bit distressing. The focus has become almost entirely about the sex and the identity and life of the prostitute, rather than the legal issues. Telling to be sure.
It’s emblematic of the downward spiral that has crippled media ethics and the investigative process the past several years. The real story here is how the information went from investigation to press, and what laws if any were really broken by Spitzer, and the legal hand wringing and negotiating struggle that is ongoing at this moment. But, finding information on that is difficult when there is snark to be written about the hookers rap music offerings on her MySpace page. And, people wonder why the US is in such deep trouble. It’s called an idiot wind.

    Digby’s dday agrees.

  • Why it took MSNBC so long to cancel Tucker Carlson is a mystery. His ratings have been bottom barrel consistently since launch and Carlson managed by sheer force of arrogance, personality and intellectual flatulence to produce one of the most routinely mundane, prosaic and mendacious shows on the air. Not to mention that he openly supprted terror and proffered a general perspective towards the free press that can be best described as totalitarian. Jon Stewart was right.
  • Bill Maher notes that it would be impossible for George W. Bush to be in any way behind the 9/11 plot for the simple fact that Bush is a moron. But, of course, all good plots need a fool. Just sayin’.
  • Glenn Greenwald links to fellow former Jakeneck grad Julian Sanchez’s excellent analysis and “dissection” of the GOP talking points regarding the FISA issue. Really essential reading…
