When a right-wing conservative talk show host like Joe Scarborough has a show where the topic is “Is Bush an Idiot?”, I’d say you’ve got major problems.
Personally, I don’t think the guy is an idiot. Uncurious? Yes. Detached? Absolutely. The very defintion of the S.N.A.F.U. Prinicple- disconnected from reality due to being surrounded by “Yes men and women”? No doubt about it.
But, Bush is a calculating politician as well. He’s intelligent. The problem is: he’s allowed others, Dick Cheney primary among them, to feed him partial policy that confirms his already rigid conservaitve views in order to foment the larger policy of insuring America the Empire. Bush is a tool.
And, to any truly discerning mind, the neo-con plan is a pipe dream. Bush has been the water carrier for a failed policy. His achilles heel comes from not entertaining conflicting points of view and looking for the best solution to the problem, rather than the ideological one. His blindspot is the result of his lack of leadership skills. That’s a tragic flaw, not idiocy.
Idiocy is exhibited by the people who follow him blindly into the craggy rocks below, all the while singing “America the Beautiful” in Klingon.
