Tattoo You is one of the more forgotten Stonees albums in many ways. It had two big hits, “Start Me Up” and “Waiting on a Friend” (with Sly and Robby in the video no less on a stoop on St. Marks Place) but I’ve always thought that the less known songs on it were some of the best the Glimmer Twins ever wrote and recorded.

Here’s “Worried About You”.

As current events heat up, it is important to keep some very simple facts in perspective. It is easy to get caught up in the minutae.

  • The current events in Lebanon are part of a laid out plan to ensure unrest in the Middle East. Unrest in the ME will allow the US to extend its military power in the name of “peace”.
  • The Bush White House is controlled by neocons who believe that the USA is the lone superpower and should expand its influence, under the guise of democracy, via its military might. Any country that is not a democracy will be converted to a US “protectorate” at the point of a gun.
  • The single most important area for the US to control is the Middle East, with its dwindling oil deposits. If the USA does not control the oil, they can not control the fuel supply and that puts the fuel dependent military at a greater risk. If the military fuel supply is at risk, the military is at risk, thus the USA (and its plans for the expansion of US protectorates) is at risk.
  • The Bush White House and the US Congress are controlled by people beholden to the military industrial complex and the oil companies. Any solution that does not feed into the financial profits of these undustries is disregarded straight away. Thus, armament treaties, diplomacy and alternative feul sources are not seriously pursued in any meaningful manner. Any threat to the neocon agenda is met with an onslaught of well funded propaganda and public relations. And, it works.
  • Dick Cheney and a handful of policy consultants make and enforce US foreign policy as described above. Anyone who attempts to or appears to pursue an agenda contrary to their agenda is immediately attacked. That includes Condolezza Rice.
  • The practice of “eliminationsim” applies to everyone who opposses, either directly or indirectly, the neocon agenda. This tactic is nurtured and supported by the right-wing Wurlitzer, the propaganda noise machine consisting of radio, TV and print – Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Ann Coulter, et al.
  • Liberals have to understand that the primary function of the Wurlitzer isn’t to engage the issues, it is to obsure the issues and to divert attention from the issues using hatred, fear and bigotry. Ann Coulter is the best example of this in action. She attacks Liberals outright and we respond to those attacks. Tet, the irony is that her attacks on the surface are tacitly absurd. She wants an emotional response (and distraction) and she gets one. Whether she is right or wrong when stating her points is not the point. (When confronted on this, stammers refuses to answer and changes the subject.) The distration is the point. As long as Liberals are kept rocking on their feet by a constant barrage of attacks and disinformation, their role in both the process and the battle for public opinion (the war of ideas) is marginalized. This is but one part of the “eliminationism” plan.
  • Liberals have to accept the fact that they must beat the right-wing at its own game. And, that means confronting the Bush White House and the GOP controlled Congress on their incestuous connections to big business on all levels. The system they enjoy is corrupt to the rafters, and shining a light upon it will make the rats scurry in fear.

The neocon right-wing agenda, as it is unfolding and in affect this very day, is a house of cards. A fact not lost on the brass at the Pentagon.

And, it is being revealed as such. Even to the most stalwart of conservative minds.

  • Dick Cheney says “It’s World War 3! Vote GOP!™
  • This progression of events is frightening:

    1. US calls for Israel to attack Syria.

    2. Syria says it will “join the conflict” if Israel invades Lebenon.

    3. Isreal troops move into Lebanon.

This is, of course, why the obviously confused Sec. of State Rice has suddenly rushed into action.

  • Billmon sets David Brooks straight on a few historical facts vs. Brooks’ penchant for historical revisionism and lack of facts.
  • Greg Sargent explains a bit of GOP rhetorical masturbation for the brain damaged amongst us:
John Boehner wants you to know that it’s OK if Republicans use images of people killed on 9/11 for political purposes, but at the same time, it’s very very bad indeed if Dems show pictures of flag-draped coffins.

  • Sadly No! pwns Emperor Darth Misha, which isn’t that hard. But, it is rather sad, since he nor the droogs who frequent his circle jerk comments seem to realize they’ve been bitch slapped. But, they sure are good at repeating “Boy! We sure did bitch slap Sadly No! Didn’t we?!” None of them seem to realize that the Sadly No! line of items were not even for sale and were a joke. PWNED.
  • Over at Michelle Malkin, they seem to think that the NY Times reporting that the Bush Administration sending more percision guided bombs to Israel (apparently they are running out) is the same as (wait for it)… if the NT Times had reported back in 1945 that the Truman Administration was sending atomic bombs to troops in the Pacific theater. The very confused wingnut asks: “What’s the difference between that and this?” Here’s a short primer for the poor dumb critter:

    - The existence of the atomic bomb was a top secret program. It’s existence was unknown to the Japanese. (presumably). The guided bombs on delivery to Israel are not top secret.

    - The information that the bombs were being delivered came from the Bush Administration itself. It would appear, if one were to actually think about it, that the Administration wishes people to know, (Hezzbollah, Syria and Iran perhaps?) that the Israeli supply of weapons will go unfettered and unthreatened. Pretty smart propaganda if you ask me.

Seems to me if certain wingnuts weren’t so eager to bash what they see as the liberal world, they might actually learn something.

Malkin is no fool of course. Creating a diversion and focusing on the messenger is a tried and true disinformation tactic of the right. The real story here is that the US provides 20% of the money for Israel’s annual military budget, and supplies the weapons. Israel has a direct line of credit to US military corporations. Hezzbollah’s weapons are supplied and financed by Syria and Iran.

That’s the story and the point.

  • The Funny Farm has the Top Five Myths About America, which include the USA was founded on Christian principles and the media is controlled by Liberals. (c/o Skippy)
  • Ezra Klein picks up the ball that the media and the blogsphere dropped: It’s not that Bush said “shit”, it’s that he outlined his perspective on Syria and the role it plays in the struggle in the ME:
That’s a big deal: Bush believes it within the Syrian government’s power to calm the conflict. Theoretically, that should have major implications for American diplomacy and, possibly, policy. So what’s CNN’s headline? “Open mic catches Bush expletive on Mideast”! The story is not that his substantive views on the issue have been uncovered, but that the president curses. Indeed, the article even speculates on how such a stunner slipped out, arguing that “the escalating crisis in the Middle East prompted him to use an expletive in a conversation with British Prime Minister Tony Blair.”

This is your press corps. The President has a potty mouth is a more pressing story than the President believe sufficient pressure on the sovereign nation of Syria could be the key to ending an intensely volatile war in the Middle East. What a proud day for my profession. (c/o Avedon)

    July 18th, 2006 Comments

Via a most timely post by Tbogg…Monkey killing monkey killing monkey over pieces of the ground

    Right in Two… Tool.

    Angels on the sideline,
    Puzzled and amused
Why did Father give these humans free will?
    Now they’re all confused.

Don’t these talking monkeys know that
Eden has enough to go around?
Plenty in this holy garden, silly monkeys
Where there’s one you’re bound to divide it,

    Right in two

    Angels on the sideline,
    Baffled and confused
Father blessed them all with reason
And this is what they choose
    Monkey killing monkey killing monkey
    Over pieces of the ground
    Silly monkeys give them thumbs,
They forge a blade, and where there’s one
    They’re bound to divide it,

    Right in two
    Right in two

    Monkey killing monkey killing monkey
    Over pieces of the ground
    Silly monkeys give them thumbs
They make a club and beat their brother down
How they survive so misguided is a mystery
Repugnant is a creature who would squander
The ability to live tonight in heaven
Conscious of his fleeting time here

Cut it right all, right in two

Fight over cloud, over earth, over sky
Fight over life, over blood, over air and light
Fight over love, over sun, over another
Fight for each other, for the ones who are rising

    Angels on the sideline again
Been so long with patience and reason
    Angels on the sideline again
Wondering when this tug of war will end

Cut it right all, right in two
    Right in two
    Right in two

    Where am I?
