It’s a brilliant Rovian tactic that keeps the base hating the opposition “Liberals” and keeps Bush’s hands clean. This is the first bulwark that must be breeched if the Democrats wish to regain the majority on the Hill this year.

The scale of warrantless surveillance, and the high proportion of bystanders swept in, sheds new light on Bush’s circumvention of the courts. National security lawyers, in and out of government, said the washout rate raised fresh doubts about the program’s lawfulness under the Fourth Amendment, because a search cannot be judged “reasonable” if it is based on evidence that experience shows to be unreliable.

And, Avedon Carol has the usual linkorama of good material to read, including the latest from Krugman, and a must read by Kung Fu Monkey who dissects a right-wing attempt at bashing Hollywood, but gets the facts all wrong. Sounds pretty familiar. If only I had half of KFM’s patience and humor.
